FAMILY BUDGET GUIDE
Plan one clothing budget for the whole family
Family shopping gets expensive when every person is treated as a separate shopping trip. A better method is to build one needs list, rank it by urgency and divide the total budget before choosing stores.
Make a needs-first list
For each person, write the item, size, urgency and maximum spend. Separate genuine replacements from useful additions and optional wants. Fund replacements first.
Keep a reserve
Do not allocate every dollar immediately. Keeping roughly 5% to 10% unassigned gives you room for a size change, shipping threshold or one category that costs more than expected.
Example: $200 family budget
| Need | Example allocation |
|---|---|
| Adult essentials | $60 |
| Older child | $45 |
| Younger child | $40 |
| Baby/toddler | $35 |
| Reserve | $20 |
Your split should reflect actual need, not equal amounts. One child may need shoes while another still has a full wardrobe that fits.
Before buying: confirm size, final price, shipping and return terms on the retailer's site. Children’s sizing can vary substantially between brands.
